Is art college a waste of time?

All the a-levels im doing are art/fashion based, so that's my only uni option, I would really like to do an art foundation course because its the only thing im interested in learning about (education wise) But i dont want to have an arty job when im older I always thought id work in a trade or as a nurse, teacher, etc. something what is needed. But then is going to art college a waste of time and should i start training for a practical job when i leave a-levels? Thanks
