Why do you believe Saint Paul so radically changed his mind on Jesus Christ and His church?

I realize that he was knocked off his horse, blinded, and heard of voice of God. Do you think he questioned himself as he murdered early Christians for the Roman Empire? Was the Holy Spirit working within him even as he slaughtered innocent people? Did he know the Truth but fought it internally before the lightening bolt struck him?
