Do you have to center the dot on a red dot sight?

At 50 yds, it does not matter where your eye is in relation to the scope. The dot should appear in the center of the scope. If it does not, it is broken. At distances other then 50 yds, if you eye is not centered behind the scope, there will be a little error on aiming.
