In Which Ways Does The Film "East Is East" Treat Religious People Unfairly?
it doesn't really. I mean it sort of derrides muslim culture but that's even a stretch as it more or less only tries to demonstrate an incompatibility ( a culture clash) between two distinct cultures within a family unit and within society as a whole. The father is trying to live up to his own fathers name by finally making things right and returning to his muslim roots after defying his father and marrying outside of his arranged marriage. However his wife and kids are largely westerners and his hypocrisy is clear to them. I'm not sure why you're being asked this question but it seems unsubstantiated in itself. Often religiously affiliated schools are pushing an agenda, which seems to be the case here. If you need to do the report take what I said and twist it so the father seems like he's being persecuted for his religious beliefs.
